The department of "Kazakh Studies" was established in 1973, the main tasks of the department are:
Publication of the quarterly bibliographic index "Kazakhstanika", informing readers about the Republic of Kazakhstan, published in the countries of far and near abroad, about the political, economic and cultural life of the republic, the works of Kazakhstani writers, as well as about the general problems of Kazakhstan and other regions, about the book, fine art, music publications, dissertations of abstracts, as well as articles published in collections, magazines and newspapers.
The basis for compiling the index is the mandatory copies of state registration and statistical accounting accepted by the book chamber, as well as the processing and bibliographic description of articles in newspapers and magazines of Kazakhstani authors of foreign origin
In accordance with the Agreement on Information Cooperation of the National State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the main sources of information are the cards of the CIS book chambers, materials selected when viewing literature in the republican libraries of Almaty, as well as the use of bibliographic indexes of the Russian Book Chamber, abstract journals published by KazNIINTI, and other sources.
The main activity of the department " Retrospective bibliography":
Retrospective bibliography is a concept used in the world bibliographic practice, the collection and grouping of literature published in previous years into one index.
The retrospective bibliography is considered part of the state bibliography.
Publication of retrospective bibliographic indexes of printed products for the past certain time:
"Chronicle of books of the Republic of Kazakhstan";
"Journals of the Republic of Kazakhstan: a consolidated bibliographic index";
"Chronicle of journal articles: a consolidated bibliographic index";
"Newspapers of the Republic of Kazakhstan: a consolidated bibliographic index";
"Chronicle of newspaper articles: a consolidated bibliographic index";
"Press of the Republic of Kazakhstan: statistical summary bibliographic index";
"Index of Kazakhstan: a bibliographic index";
"Chronicle of texts: summary bibliographic index"; "chronicle of reviews: summary bibliographic index";
"Chronicle of musical publications: a consolidated bibliographic index";
"Chronicle of Fine Art: a consolidated bibliographic index";
"Abstract of the dissertation: a consolidated bibliographic index".
To prepare these bibliographic indexes, the following works are carried out:
systematizes and classifies by industry (in accordance with the UDC, BBK). Compiles additional indicators (nominal, thematic);
classify alphabetically, type texts on the computer, and also prepare the reading of a fully compiled index.
The section "retrospective bibliography and Kazakh studies" applies interstate standards - "System of Standards on information, library and publishing" (SIBID) when writing, processing bibliographic and analytical descriptions of printed products:
