The National State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NSBC RK) is a leading institution responsible for the registration, accounting, and preservation of the country’s printed heritage. Its main mission is to ensure the complete and systematic recording of all printed publications issued in Kazakhstan, as well as the formation and preservation of the national bibliographic fund.
The Book Chamber carries out the mandatory registration of publications and assigns international ISBN standard numbers, as well as barcodes. This ensures the identification and tracking of printed products at both national and international levels.
One of its key areas of activity is the formation of the “Press Archive,” a unique collection consisting of mandatory copies of all books, newspapers, and magazines published in the country. This archive represents an important part of the national cultural and documentary heritage and is used for scientific, historical, and informational purposes.
The Book Chamber also carries out state bibliographic activities, including the preparation of the annual “Book of Kazakhstan,” quarterly and thematic indexes, as well as analytical and statistical materials on the publishing industry.
Another important function is maintaining state publishing statistics, analyzing publishing activity, and providing information services to government bodies, libraries, publishing houses, and research institutions.
Thus, the National State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan plays a strategic role in preserving the country’s documentary heritage, developing the bibliographic system, and supporting the publishing sector.
