The activities of the National State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan are aimed at the state registration, preservation, and systematization of the country’s national printed heritage.
The main areas of work include the receipt and control of legal deposit copies of printed materials submitted by publishing houses, printing houses, and authors, as well as their initial registration and entry into the state electronic database. Each publication is assigned an inventory number that ensures its identification and further tracking.
The Book Chamber forms the “Press Archive” — a unique state fund that stores mandatory copies of all types of publications for permanent preservation. This fund is an important part of the cultural and documentary heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The institution also carries out state bibliographic activities, including the preparation of national bibliographies, the publication of annual and thematic indexes, as well as statistical analysis of publishing output and the country’s book market.
An important area of activity is the assignment of international standard ISBN numbers and barcodes, ensuring the identification of publications at both national and international levels.
In addition, the Book Chamber provides information and reference services, responds to requests from government bodies, libraries, publishing houses, and other organizations, and monitors compliance with publishing standards and regulatory requirements.
Thus, the Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan plays an important role in preserving the national documentary heritage, developing the library and bibliographic system, and ensuring transparent and systematic accounting of publishing activities in the country.
