International Book and Copyright Day
23-04-2021
April 23 is an important date for representatives of world literature. In 1995, the UNESCO General Conference in Paris decided to give this day a special symbolic character in order to honor the memory of the founders of literature, who form human culture, and to promote them for young people. It was at this historical meeting that the issue of awarding a special prize for representatives of children's and youth literature was approved.

The significant date with more than a quarter-century history is expanding every year and is becoming more and more important. One can feel the weight of the date calling for reading a book – the most reliable means of spreading and preserving knowledge, promoting educational work, reviving cultural traditions.

Through the book, we get not only knowledge, but also new ideas, spiritual qualities of thought, spiritual values, the ability to see and understand the beautiful, to feel the power of the word, to be able to speak eloquently. Any book built on a deep combination of knowledge and creativity is able to tell about its social environment, tell about the traditions of different peoples.

The book is a sacred tool that can unite several cultural trends and different civilizations within the same time and space. Today, the International Book and Copyright Day is celebrated by millions of people in more than a hundred countries. On this day, various events are held in various associations, schools, public institutions, professional organizations and private enterprises.

Thanks to the events held on the eve of the International Book and Copyright Day, thousands of people have become friends with the book, have embarked on the path of self-development, a high view of the world, absorb all the phenomena of the world through the power of the word and enjoy it. It is obvious that the interpenetration of cultural trends is the process of developing book culture, deepening international relations. At the same time, within the framework of this date, issues of copyright protection are being raised, and every year a number of barriers are being created on the way to creating.

It is worth noting that in our country there are also a number of issues on copyright. Together with the National State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Association of Publishers, Printers and Book Distributors, it is planned to organize online seminars with the participation of specialists of the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, covering all representatives (publishers, authors) in the field of publishing of the country.

To solve the problems of copyright, it is necessary, first of all, to improve the legal literacy of citizens and industry workers. During the online seminar we are planning, it is expected that such needs will be put on the agenda and problematic issues will be resolved through a face-to-face meeting of both sides.

During the celebration of the International Day of Books and Copyright, special attention is paid to the issues of the modern role of books and the increasing cultural potential of each state. Therefore, various initiatives and events are planned annually within the framework of this date.
Thus, the geographical and content circle of the International Book and Copyright Day is rapidly expanding.
The book is a unique means of protecting, promoting and preserving cultural, literary, and spiritual relics of humanity. That is why the leading countries of the world pay special attention to the formation of a book culture.

There is one unique project that takes place within the framework of the International Book and Copyright Day. This is the approval of the book capital of the world for 1 year. The city, which has become the book capital of the world, hosts fairs, book exhibitions, presentations of works by world classics, anniversaries, and various cultural events throughout the year.

In 2021, the city of Tbilisi received the status of the book capital of the world. During the year, meetings, various competitions, various cultural events will be held in this city, at which issues of the development of book culture will be considered.

We know that the people of Kazakhstan have a rich cultural, literary and spiritual heritage. If we properly promote particularly valuable, weighty works at the human level in the archives, then our weight in the international book industry will grow and strengthen.

Currently, various work is being carried out in this direction. We hope that in the coming years one city of the country will receive the status of the"book capital of the world".
